Psychology services

Working in schools can be complex and demanding, and at times our mental health can be challenged. The cognitive and emotional demands of school leadership and school workplaces can take an unexpected toll and leave people feeling depleted and overwhelmed.

Mental health challenges

We offer psychology services to support adults working in schools experiencing:

  • stress and emotional exhaustion (burnout)
  • worry, anxiety and low mood
  • loss and grief
  • traumatic stress, secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue

Events/life stages

Personal / school-based events and life stages can be challenging, including:

  • career transitions (leadership, retirement)
  • critical incidents and complex matters
  • trauma-informed work with vulnerable communities
  • bullying, harassment and other workplace issues
  • life transitions (new parenting, empty nesting, elder care)

People experiencing these may benefit from additional support to foster awareness, process responses, strengthen coping capacities and maintain/restore wellbeing.

Wellbeing coaching for school leaders (GLWS)

The Global Leadership Wellbeing System (GLWS) survey, a validated measure used with NSW school leaders since 2021 offers a useful way to support individual and organisational wellbeing through personalised, confidential reports for individual leaders, and systemic data across teams, revealing themes, strengths and areas deserving attention.

The GLWS surveys focus on six domains across Working Well and Living Well and are:

  • independently validated (University of Melbourne)
  • psychometrically rigorous
  • secure and confidential
  • individual and team/group reporting available (5+ leaders).

Wellbeing coaching

Personalised GLWS reports underpin 1–3 individual coaching sessions with a Compassionate Schools psychologist, enabling deeper understanding and personal agency to enhance leaders’ wellbeing.

Coaching sessions may focus on GLWS insights and other related wellbeing topics, as best fit participating school leaders’ needs.
